  • Student Activities
  • 1.  Students will do a story map for the book read to the class.
  • 2.  Homework- Give your students the your wed page address so they may log in at home and look at the student wed page and go to the linked animal web sites.
  • 3. Follow up-Take your students to the school computer lab to go visit the web page again.  Give them time to play and decide what animal they are planning on writing about.  Once their animal has been chosen, they need to look at that animals wed site and look for details in their animal.
  • 4.  Students will then complete a story plan worksheet to help them work through their story before they begin the writing.  This will help them with choosing characters and what will happen in the beginning, middle and end of their story.  Teacher may model the story plan worksheet before students begin if they have never used it in class before.
  • 5.  Students will then begin to write their story using their story plan.
  • 6.  Students are expected to follow their story plan by using characters,  having a beginning, middle and end to the story, physical details of their characters, and use of all writing rules:  correct use of capitalize letters, correct punctuation, correct spacing between words and their neatest handwriting.

  •    7.  The teacher will then read the students papers looking for all expectancies.

    Results
The students enjoyed visiting the web page at home and at school.  They  were able to list descriptive words from the pictures they saw on the computer and completed the story map accurately.  With the use of the words and the story mapping, the students stories turned out to be very creative.  The more visual cues first graders have, the better the results.
