Day
3
Let's review. What do we mean by
the slope of a curve? Can you calculate the slope of a curve at a
given point? Can you write the equation of the tangent line to a
curve at a given point? If you do not know how to do these things,
go back and review Day 1 and/or Day
2. When you are ready, click on Quiz and take the Quiz you find
there. Show all your work. Turn it in and have it grade it when
you are done. You may be asked to do some additional work on these sections.
Complete Worksheet 1
We've worked with finding the slope of
a curve at a specific x value, x = 2, x = -1, x
= 5.....
Did you notice any patterns when you were
doing the problems on the worksheet? Wouldn't it be nice to streamline
this process? Do Exploration 1 to find a way to generalize the process
for calculating the value of the slope of a curve for many different values
of x. You should derive a formula for calculating the slope of the
functions f(x), g(x) and h(x). Turn in your work and get approval
before proceeding.
Now look at this next visual. Keep
in mind what you've been able to generalize so far.
