Introduction
Humans group information by categorizing according
to patterns of common properties. Scientists clarify the countless thousands
of organisms into groups with each group possessing similar characteristics.
Students observe and classify monera, protista, fungi, plants, and animals
according to internal and external features. Traditional and non-traditional
systems are used to emphasize the process and the standard five kingdom
system currently used by scientists. Students will learn to the how
all living things belong to one of five kingdoms. The animal kingdom wil
be emphasized.

Instructional
Objectives
-
After reading chapters 5 and 6
in your Fearon Science text, students will learn the meanings of
the vocabulary words listed under words to know.
-
Students wille explain why a classification
system of organisms is important.
-
Students will identify the five
kingdoms of life and give an example of each.
-
Students will be able to list
four characteristics of a mammal.
-
Students will be able to identify
three vertebrates and three invertebrates.
-
Students will be able to provide
a written and oral examlpe of a host/parasite relationship.
-
Students will differentiate between
an amphibian, arthropod, and a mammal.
-
Students will list at least three
different kinds of animal cells and explain its function.
-
After viewing the pictures of
the five kingdoms on a laser disk, students will be able to identify
pictures of an organism in each kingdoms.
-
After analyzing information from
an Encarta CD, students will be able to compare the manner in which the
organisms of the five kingdoms obtain or make food.
-
Students will be able to draw
a diagram comparing a protista to a monera.
-
After collecting information from
The World book CD, students will be able write a paragraph on how animals
make food.
-
After reading the chapter, students
will be able to pass amultiple choice quiz on the kingdoms of life.
-
Students will be able to identify
the major differences between monera, protista, fungi, plants, and animals.
-
Students will be able to present
their findings on these chapters in a Power Point multimedia presentation
to an audience of peers and adults.,
-
Students will be able to write,
edit and revise their findings on the ninth grade structure standards using
correct grammar, spelling and punctuation in a three page paper.
