Students will be introduced to Greek mythology through the reading of several classic Greek myths. Subject: Social Studies/ELA List the California State Standards your lesson addresses. For example: Sixth Grade Social Studies/Language Arts (2) 3. Deliver oral responses to literature that exhibit careful reading,
understanding and insight.

Students will read various Greek myths, exploring themes, characters, and
what can be learned about Greek ideals from these myths.
Students will begin by reading the Greek creation myths, introducing Zeus, and his family of Gods. After each story students will write notes describing the characters/characteristics of the Greek Gods, as well as the themes present within these creation myths. Students will then continue with the reading of stories involving Greek heroes, with some introduction to the Greek tragedies and comedies. Enabling Activity Students will begin by watching
a video of Jason and the Argonauts, in order to create immediate
interest for most students. Discussion will follow regarding what
can be learned about Greek ideals and beliefs from having watched this
movie, and how this might also be done after reading the various myths.
Following the discussion, students will take pre-test about Greek myths,
values, and relation to modern entertainment forms.
Culminating Activity Students will take test online,
to include both written and multiple choice answers.
Assessment will be made based on grading of the culminating test.
