Introduction

           In this lesson, students will choose an Olympic event, such as the 200 meter 
 relay, and compare the winning times for men and women over the past 10 Olympic games.  Based on a statistical analysis of these times, the student will answer the question: "Should women compete with men in the Olympics?'"

Instructional Objectives

   *   Students will be able to use the internet to look up statistics involving
          winning times or distances of men and women who have won a particular 
          Olympic event.

    *    Students will be able to display a comparison of winning times or distances 
          by using the Excel Spreedsheet.

    *    Students will be able to find mean, mode and median.

    *    Students will be able to present their findings and their answer to the 
          question "Should women compete with men in the Olympics?"  using a 
          Powerpoint presentation.

Student Activities

     1.  Students  will access the internet to collect data.

      2.   Students will use Excel to display their data on a spreadsheet.

      3.   Students will use Powerpoint to present their findings.
