STANDARD #3 Historical and Cultural Context 
                STUDENTS DEVELOP KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS NECESSARY TO
                UNDERSTAND PERFORM MUSIC FROM ALL PARTS OF THE WORLD.
                THEY INVESTIGATE THE RELATIONSHIP OF MUSIC TO HISTORY AND
                CULTURE.

         Ninth thru Twelth grade
               Music: Musician's roles USA culture
Instructional Objectives: 
       The student's mission is to answer the question "How has 
            the role of musicians effected the united states, in society 
            and in different cultures".

       The student will build a power point presentation to share their musician 
             with the rest of the class.  They will incorperate the information they have
             researched and collected  into the slide show.  They will include in that
             information pictures and audio files of their musician. 

Student Activities

        Identify 3 different musicians in various styles and genres. Choose
        a musician from the 1940's or 50's one from the 60's or 70's and one from 
        the 80's or 90's.

        Identify 2 social/economic and 2 cultural roles musicians might play in
        the United States.

        Compare and contrast each musician with the roles you have selected.
 

Assessment
           Select one of the 3 musicians and do a Power Point presentation on the artist. 
                  Use  3 audio and 3 visual examples of your musician. 
           Write a 3 page biography on your musician as to his/her influence on society, 
                   culture and  the influence he/she has made on your life. 
 
 

Results
           Present your Power Point presentation to the rest of the class.
           Students will take a writen test including vocabulary and questions.
