Introduction
Using a newspaper article students will be asked to research 15 new details about their topic then summarize the article and new information. The results will be designed and published in a multimedia presentation.

Instructional Objectives

  1. After completing their research project students should have a better understanding of collecting and summarizing information.

  2. Students will gain experience and know-how in developing a multimedia project.

  3. Students will better understand how to correctly create a bibliography and it's importance to the reader.

Student Activities
Students will be researching an article and developing their results into a multimedia project.


Introductory Activity
Students will begin the activity by reading the article they have picked out. Then they will be asked to write five details about their article. Lastly, they'll be asked to  locate one graphic out on the Web.

Enabling Activity(ies)
In the following activities the students will be asked to collect 15 new details from the Web, keeping a bibliography as they go, and organize all their research in a summary.  Using the templates, they are to design and build a presentation using the information gathered.

Culminating Activity
Each student will be asked to present their news article to the class. They will be expected to read their new newspaper article and answer what they've learned and where they found their sources.

Assessment will be based on Pacheco School's Writing Rubric.

  •  Student’s that paired up seemed to have greater success
     Those that stayed on schedule met with greater success
     The Cite-Writer site is difficult for a novice both as a
       concept and as a tool so be prepared
