Abuela, by Arthur Dorros, is a magical fantasy, based on a girl's travels around New Your City with her Spanish-speaking grandmother.  Students read, listen, speak and write as well as use visual and auditory links in the web and within this page, to enhance learrning.

Introductory Activity
---Day one:  Students will go to links of actual pictures of sites in NYC which are artistically rendered in the story.  The teacher will read and discuss the story of Abuela by Arthur Dorros, to students.   Students will answer written multiple coice comprehension questions about the story.

Enabling Activities
---Day two:  Students will read and discuss the story in pairs.  They may use the book or the Internet link for Abuela. 
---Day three:  Students will listen to the 23 Spanish phrases and their English translations by a student who speaks Spanish as her primary language.  Students will practice reading Spanish and the English translations, using audio links on this page. 

Culminating Activity
---Day four:  Students will write a letter to a grandparent or family member using email or a word processor.
---Day 5:  Students will email or mail their letter to their grandparents or a friend.
