Introduction
The first grade students will be viewing a web sites about plant needs.  The students will navigate to learn the four things plants need to grow.

Instructional Objectives
The students will learn the four things plants need to grow. (soil, water, sunlight and air)

Student Activities
 The students will view the activities web page.  The students will be instructed to step through the pages by reading the text and pushing the appropriate buttons. The students will be encouraged to step through the web site a second time. The web page titled Plants Need identifies the four things plants need to grow.  The other page titled Dotties Garden tells the students in story form the things needed to grow plants. 
 

Introductory Activity
Literature will be used to interest the student in the subject area of plant growth.  The students will listen to the story The Carrot Seed written by Crockett Johnson.  A discussion about the book will focus on the things the boy does to encourage plant growth.   The student will also listen to Pumpkin Pumpkin written by Jeanne Titherington.  The growth sequence will be discussed.

Enabling Activities
The students will be instructed on how to access the student web page in the computer lab.  The students will view the two sites that contain information about plants.  Students will be encouraged to view the web page multiple times.

Culminating Activity
Using the knowledge gained from the web site, the students will complete the following  sentences. 


 

Assessment
The following grading rubric was used on the pre and post test.

Grading Rubric
1 Students attempts to fill in the frame sentence.
2 Students identifies 1 correct responses.
3 Students identifies 2  correct responses.
4 Students identifies 3  correct responses.
5 Students identifies 4  correct responses.
 
 

Results
The students were given the pretest prior to viewing the web site.  The grading rubric was used to score the pretest and posttest.
