Instructional Objectives

  1. After completing a word sort the students will be able to determine the meaning of the words by using their root or base word and then adding its parts to be able to identify the whole meaning of the word.
  2. Students will be able to make a direct correlation on how words grow from base words and word roots.
  3. After participating and building a word tree,  using prior knowledge, students will see a relationship in words and word meanings.
  4. Use "Root Word Jeopardy" as an effective extension for student exploration of root word meaning. It also extends students' understanding of how Root and Base words function within words.
