What do you know about the phases
of the moon?
For the next six weeks you will
learn more. You will observe the moon, read about it, do dramatizations,
draw pictures, and learn to write about
your observations.
CLASSROOM ACTIVITY:
We will read the following books in class:
(1) So That's How The Moon Changes Shape
by Allan Fowler
(2) Tell Me Why The Moon Changes Shape
by Shirley Willis
(3) Does The Moon Change Shape?
by Meish Goldish
(4) The Moon Seems To Change
by Barbara Emberley
(5) Where Does The Moon Go? by
Sidney Rosen
(6) The Moon Book by
Gail Gibbons
HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT:
Think about what we have discussed in class about the phases of the moon
and
talk with your parent about what you think you might see. On
the evening of ___
_______________ at 8:00 P.M., go outside with your
parent and using binoculars,
if you have them, observe the shape and position of the moon. After
returning inside,
make a drawing of what you observed on the assignment sheet provided.
Parents
sign the sheet and make any comments about this activity in space at bottom.
FOLLOW-UP CLASSROOM ASSIGNMENT:
We will discuss what you observed and decide what phase the moon is in
now.
We will do a dramatic reinactment of the the movement of the moon
in relation to the
earth and the earth's orbit around the sun to help us understand the phases
of the
moon.
