• Take Pretest
• Checkout some common household acids and bases and their uses
• Watch Introductory film clip on acids and bases 
• Read Student Information Sheet  : What are acids and bases ? Answer questions

• Look through your household chemicals (in the kitchen, under the sink, in the garage) and list ten. 
• Next to each of the chemicals you listed,  predict if the chemical is an acid, base, or neutral. 

Day 2

Class work

• Lab. Finding the pH of common household chemicals  (part 1)

Homework :
 

• Read Student Information sheet : What is pH  ?
• Answer question for information sheet

Day 3

Class work

• Finish Lab. : Finding the pH of common household chemicals   (part 2)

Homework 

• Complete data table. Draw a pH scale enter the household chemicals in the appropriate area , use of pictures encouraged 
• This site may be used to determine pH based on cabbage color

Day 4

Class work

• Do Analyses and conclusions (attached to lab.)
• Computer Lab. Check your  pH lab results on line

• Read  Student Information Sheet  : The pH of Rivers and Streams.

Day  5
 

Class Work

• Complete Lakes and pH  :The Comparison of Two Lakes 
• Critical Thinking Questions (attached to lab.)
• Reflection prompts (in journal)

Homework 

• finish class work for today if not finished

Final Activity

We will take a field trip to Wolf Creek and perform water quality measurements
Days 6-10 monitor Aqua Column making daily journal entries
