Introduction
This lesson will be used for students missing the measurement unit at the beginning of the quarter.  Daylor High School has an open enrollment program and we continually have new students entering our classes through the session.

Students will understand and apply the principles of planning, layout, materials, assembly, and finishing processes used in the construction industry.

Instructional Objectives

1.  The student will read a ruler to within 1/16 of an inch with 100% accuracy
.
2.  The student will be able to reduce all fractions to lowest terms.
 

Student Activities

Introductory Activity

Students will take a pre-test on reading a rule. 
 

Enabling Activities
 Students will complete a worksheet which introduces them to reading a ruler.  They will then view a video on reading a ruler.  This is an interactive session in which the student creates a paper model of an inch which is broken down into 1/16" increments.  The instructor reinforces the concepts especially reducing fractions to lowest terms.

Culminating Activity
Students will take a post-test on reading a rule. Students performing below 100 percent on this test will be given individualized instruction until they have mastered reading a rule 100 percent.   Throughout the quarter, students will be building projects which will build and reinforce their measuring skills for both accuracy and speed.  Assessment
