Introduction
                  Students will examine global warming from a variety of perspectives and develop a potential method of alleviating the problem.

Standards Addressed 
          This  lesson addresses the HISTORY-SOCIAL SCIENCE STANDARDS.

8.12 Students analyze the transformation of the American economy and the changing social and political conditions in the United States in response to the Industrial Revolution.

1.Trace patterns of agricultural and industrial development as they relate to climate, use of natural resources, markets, and trade and locate such development on a map. 

11.11 Students analyze the major social problems and domestic policy issues in contemporary American society.

5.Trace the impact of, need for, and controversies associated with environmental conservation, expansion of the national park system, and the development of environmental protection laws, with particular attention to the interaction between environmental protection advocates and property rights advocates.

Student Activities
 
Introductory Activity
Students read through a series of introductory pages that introduce global warming, what it is, how it affects the environment, and some possible consequences to the global community.
 

Enabling Activity
Students carry out small lessons in each of their core curricular areas that examine different facets of global warming.

Once students have learned about global warming from a variety of perspectives, 
they create a multi-media presentation that: 

Identifies the Problem 
Identifies the Causes 
Identifies the Possible Consequences 

 and then... 

Synthesizing all the different elements studied, they develop a plan to alleviate the problem. 

They must consider the environmental, economic, political, and social aspects 
of the problem in their plan.

2 Student realizes existance of problem and understands the scope and seriousness, but has trouble relating the individual components in a holistic manner.
3 Student realizes existance of problem and understands the scope and seriousness.  Relates the individual components in a holistic manner, but does not develop a a creative potential solution to the problem .
4 Student realizes existance of problem and understands the scope and seriousness.  Relates the individual components in a holistic manner. Develops a creative potential solution to the problem.
