LETS
LEARN ABOUT JAPAN!
Day
1
-
Watch a video and/or listen to a guest
lecturer. Afterwards you and a partner will write and draw a summary about
what you have learned.

Make a " paper suitcase" with a Japanese
flag. You will keep all the information you collect and the work you do
on Japan in here.
Day
2
The class will be divided
into rotation groups.
-
You will assemble a book that
shows you how to say words in Japanese. Practice saying them to other
people in your group.

You will be given a sheet that
shows how to write numbers in Japanese. Practice writing them
with black pens. Practice saying them aloud and using them in number
stories. We will be using them to play hopscotch.

Label and color in a map of Japan
with the help of an adult.

The COMPUTER GROUP will click on the
websites below. It will show you where Japan is located on our planet
earth. Then see how you can fit together the puzzle of islands that
makes up Japan. You will also have a chance to explore some websites that
show what Japanese culture is like.

The BOOK GROUP will
explore our books on Japan, take notes and draw pictures of Japanese homes,
traditional dress, holidays and food. These pages will be put together
for a class book.

The ART GROUP will and make a
picture of a room in a Japanese home with a sliding door.

The POETRY GROUP will write haikus,
which will be printed on a piece of paper that has had a water color wash.
Students will be adding trees to the poem paper.

Final
Activities -

We will learn and sing Japanese
songs. More advanced students will learn how to play songs on the recorder.

We will bring in or make samples
of Japanese foods. Students will learn to use chopsticks.

We will make origami paper cranes,
hats, carp streamers and dolls.

Students work will be displayed
around the room.
