Students will create a Valentine's card stack for a special person of their choice.

Students write clear and coherent sentences and paragraphs that develop a central idea. Their writing shows they consider the audience and purpose. Students progress through the stages of the writing process (e.g., prewriting, drafting, revising, editing successive versions).

Instructional Objectives

After completing this project, students will be able:

  • To use the computer to create a Hyperstudio two card stack.
  • To draw or design an art form using the program's tools.
  • To create a text area with two to three complete sentences using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • To write to an audience in reference to a given theme.
  • To create a new card in Hyperstudio.
  • To locate their personal folder on the server containing their digital photo.
  • To import their photo into a stack card.
  • To capture, scale and frame their photo with the proper tool.
  • To locate the graphic folder and import appropriate graphics onto the photo card.
  • To create buttons to move from one card to the other.
  • To present their stack.
Student Activities
Introductory Activity
Students will listen to a short story about St. Valentine.

Students will observe a visual demonstration from a computer and overhead of the overall process of the project. Sample will be shown.

Enabling Activity
Students will open the Hyperstudio program on the computer to a new stack.
Have the students draw, using cut and paste and the tools to design their Valentine's card.
Have students now create a text box and write their sentences (e.g., short poem, letter form).
Second card is made using their digital picture. Clip art can also be used.

Culminating Activity
Have the student give a presentation of their final stack.
