Life Sciences
3. Adaptations
in physical structure or behavior may improve an organism's chance for
survival. As a basis for understanding this concept:
a. Students
know plants and animals have structures that serve different functions
in growth, survival, and reproduction.
b. Students know
examples of diverse life forms in different environments, such as oceans,
deserts, tundra, forests, grasslands, and wetlands.

Student
Activities
Students
will explore Box Turtles and present power point presentations.
Introductory
Activity
Students will explore the movement and body structure of a live Box Turtle
in the classroom. Students will brainstorm on a KWL chart , what
they know, and what they want to know about the Box Turtle.
Students will spend a day with Be, the Box Turtle, a fun site for a peek
at what is to come. http://www.soultones.com/gallery.html
Teacher will give the "instructional
objectives" of what students will be able to do and what they will know
because of this project.
Enabling
Activity(ies)
In
pairs, students will explore the Turtle Toodling student activity page
and link to other information sites. Looking for new information
on Box Turtles, students will complete a partner web hunt on the
internet. Students will look at the structures, food sources, and
habitats of Box Turtles.
Culminating
Activity
Students
will develop a power point presentation to share information they have
found about the survival of Box Turtles. Each presentation
will contain 4 slides: Title, Structure, Food, Habitat.
