This project is intended to be used as part of a unit on the current Middle East. It will look at three major western faiths, Judaism, Christianity, Islam and then the Protestant Reformation and four eastern faiths, Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism.
The students will identify the origin, text, symbols, holy sites, holidays, spiritual leaders, beliefs and practices of their assigned religion in both a written and oral format..

Tenth Grade standard on World Religions

Examine Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, Judaism, Islam, Christianity and the Protestant Reformation. (extra topics can be: Native American, Eastern Orthodox, Shinto, Sikhism)

 


1. The students will be able to identify the 7 major world religions and their points of origin.
2. The students will identify some of  the individuality of these religions through the use of spoke diagrams.
3. The students will identify some of  the similarities of these religions through the use of a venn diagram.
4. The students will identify some of the key philosophies of individual religions on a test.
5. The students will recognize some key symbols and practices used by these religions through class discussions, presentations and a test.
6. The students will recognize some of the holy sites through class discussions, presentations and a test. 
 
 


 
 

The students, reading out of their text books, will do some basic research on the major world religions.

The students, using information sheets, will fill out a spoke diagram on one of the major religions.
The students, using handouts, will fill out a venn diagram on 3 of the western and eastern faiths. These will show similarities and differences between the religions.
The students will view a film on World Religions.( using a movie guide to answer questions)
The students will work in groups of three to researchand prepare both a written and a 5-10 minute oral presentation on their particular religion.
 
 


The students will present their oral presentation as indicated in the assignment rubric.
The students will turn in their written paper.
The students will take a test on World Religions.
