Activity 3 Suggestions

 

Now limit your choice to one career field.  You may want to interview several people working in the career fields you have chosen.  See if you have any unanswered questions Look at the sample questions on the web sites.  Use at least one personal interview to answer all of your questions and write a one page summary of what information you find.  Make a list of questions to ask each person.  Include questions that will help you decide whether this is the right career for you.  How much education does it take?  Where can you get the necessary training?  What is the pay scale for this career in your area?  How hard will it be to get a job?  What kinds of things are employers looking for in terms of preparation for this career?  

At this point participate in a project that will take at least 15 hours and give you some first-hand experience doing an activity that will allow you to experience what this career entails. Try to find someone working in this career field (other than a family member) to act as your mentor and to document your activities.  You may also do some job shadowing to find out what this job actually involves.

Essay #3:  Write a 1 - 3 page essay in order to answer the following questions. What is the career field I am considering?  What is my personal history with this career field?  Why have I chosen this career field?  Who do I know that works in this field?  What have I learned that I like about this career?  What have I learned that I do not like about this career?  What project did you choose and how did it help you make your choice?  What advice did your mentor give you that your found useful?  

Use a works cited page to document your interviews and  any resources you used to gather information.  Use MLA style annotation to give credit to your resources.
