The Adventure Begins
As you walk through the portal the door closes behind you and you see thousands of  different paths extending in front of you.  Each one is labeled with a different career field.  Which one is right for you?  This is a big decision because you not only want to make money, you want to be able to enjoy what you are doing.

"This is even less fun than before," you think.  Surely there is an emergency exit.  The paths all look the same at this point, but you can find no lighted emergency exit sign.  (That's a certain law suit.)  There does not seem to be any thing to do except to figure out what path to take.  "Where is Regis and his fifty-fifty chance when I need him?" you muse half aloud.  As the thought clears your consciousness, another blinking arrow appears.  Above the arrow a sign reads. "To narrow choices start here."  At last you have a plan.  You step toward the arrow and suddenly, the floor drops out from under you and you slide through a dark hole.   You stop abruptly as you come to the end of the slide and your feet hit solid ground again.

A brightly lit room is where you find yourself.  At one end is a tiny mouse size door.  You head for the door and try to turn the small knob.  Your fingers can't even grasp the small know.  As you touch the door an electronic voice booms. "Who goes there?  Define yourself!"

You know your name, but can you define yourself?  What skills, interests, and abilities do you have?  What types of things do you enjoy doing?  What are your talents, preferences, and beliefs?  Use the  Activity 1 Directions to help define yourself.

2

That was an easy question to answer especially with all the help available.  You knew you were a great person, but when you found the right words you sound even better.   The door looks larger as you try it again. This time you can manage to grasp the knob with two fingers. Again the voice booms, but now it asks, "Where do you want to go?" Touch the door to continue.

Push to continue

3

There are so many things to choose from and you are a talented person.  Now you have an idea of where you want to go, you are beginning to get anxious to get there.  You try the door again.  The door is larger than before and now you can grip the knob with your fingers, but it still doesn't turn.  The voice bellows, "Where are you going?"  You realize although you have made some choices, you still don't know enough to limit them further.  Click on the door for hints on how to do some research to help complete this task.

4

Now you have limited your choices. You have a good idea of where you want to end up.   You have an idea of where you want to go. You eagerly reach for the door and try the knob.  The voice poses the question, "How will you get there?"  Touch the door for directions.

5

You are ready to open the door and start achieving your goal.  For what you think is the last time, you try the knob on the door.  The voice seems to be taking on a hint of humor as it asks, "Is where you are going - going to be there when you get there?  Touch the door for directions.

6

Now you know the future outlook for your chosen career.  You are more anxious than ever to get there.  The door now appears large enough for you to crawl through.  Confidently you try the knob.  There goes that voice again saying, "Do you know what you are getting into?"  Touch the door for directions.

7

That took a little planning.  Now you know what personal sacrifices you might have to make and you also have a more definite idea about how the career you have chosen will meet your future needs.  If you bend over you can probably walk through the door.  You touch the knob.  That irritating voice asks, "Have you learned anything so far?"  Touch the door for directions.

8

Now everything seems to be coming together.  You know what you want to do with your life and you know the rewards the career field will have for you.  If you ever change your mind you know how to go about looking into different careers.  You are ready for action.  You will just have to slightly bend your head in order to fit through the door.  You grasp the knob and feel it wiggle a little.  But again the voice asks a question as it demands an answer, "What's your plan?"  Touch the door for directions.

9

There can't be anything else left to do.  Now that you have a written plan you are ready to put it into action.  You reach for the knob as you notice the door is large enough to walk through without scrunching down.  The knob twists part way and then the awful voice once again breaks the spell by asking, "Do you have the necessary tools?"  Touch the door for directions.

10

Now you know what a correctly completed application looks like.  You know how to answer all of the questions with positive answers.  The application looks neat and attractive.  You are ready!  Hello world here I come is what you are thinking.  The knob turns, but the door seems to be stuck.  Your buddy, the voice of doom, once again fill the air with the question, "Is that the only tool you will need?"  Touch the door for directions.

11

That seems to be everything.  The door is full height and the knob turns freely.  The door starts to move but then it stops and not matter how hard you throw your weight against it, it doesn't budge any further.  Just as you begin to loose faith that you will ever leave this room and start your journey toward a successful career you hear a cheerful voice  saying, "Show me what you have learned."  Touch the door for directions.
