Introduction

Welcome to Armijo High School

You're in the right place if you wish to enroll a student in a special education program.

Armijo has a large special education department with over 25 teachers and instructional assistants and provides the following special education programs:

Resource Specialist Program (RSP)  Speech and Language
Special Day Class (SDC)  Low Vision
Functional Academic Class (FA)  Emotionally Disturbed (ED)

The Solano County Office of Education also maintains a program at Armijo for severely handicapped students.

You readily can enroll a 9th-12th grade student transferring from another school within this district or local area (which consists of Fairfield, Suisun City, Travis, Vacaville, Dixon, and Benicia) or a student with an active IEP transferring from another school from outside this area.  You also can recommend a student for testing for possible placement in special education or refer a student who previously was in special education for possible re-entry.  Please contact the school psychologist through e-mail or call 438-3394 for further information regarding new placements or re-entries.

If you are interested in the program for the emotionally disturbed, please contact the specialist assigned to that class.

Eligible Students

High school age students who live in the Armijo attendance area automatically are eligible to apply for enrollment at Armijo High School.  Students who live outside the Armijo attendance boundaries also may apply to enroll by first completing an open enrollment form, available in the counseling office, and submitting it to the school.  Students who currently are on expulsion will be served at an alternative site.

Enrollment and Registration Materials

An enrollment appointment and further information may be obtained by contacting Armijo counseling and registration at 438-3383. (Please indicate that the student is in special education when calling so that a special ed. representative will be available to help you.)

Your appointment meeting will be held in the counseling office on the main campus at Armijo.  This office is located in the main office complex behind the flag pole at 824 Washington Street in downtown Fairfield.

To enroll at Armijo, an eligible student transferring from outside the district or area (outside of Fairfield, Suisun City, Travis, Vacaville, Dixon, and Benicia) and parent/guardian should complete the regular school enrollment package and special ed. packet. The following items should be brought to the appointment:

  • proof of residence, such as a utility bill or driver's license with current address
  • student shot record  (a legal requirement)
  • transcript/withdrawal grades from the previous school
  • copy of the current Individual Educational Plan (IEP), if available
  • copy of the last 3-year evaluation/psychological report, if available
  • proof of guardianship, if needed
If the student is transferring from within the Fairfield-Suisun School District or local special ed. area (Travis, Vacaville, Dixon, or Benicia), some of the above items may be available in the local records.  However, it always speeds up the enrollment process when the parent/guardian has these items in hand.

In addition, if a student had severe behavioral, credit, or attendance problems at the previous school, the student and parent/guardian will need to meet with an Armijo administrator before enrollment.  The Armijo clerk at 438-3383 will be able to refer you to the appropriate administrator for this.

Registration Forms

The parent/guardian will need to complete Armijo intake paperwork:

The parent/quardian with student from outside the district/area also will complete a special education intake packet:  A student transferring from within the district/area will complete an abbreviated packet consisting of the regular Armijo intake paperwork and the special education student data entry form (MIS).

At the registration meeting, staff  will provide a copy of Solano County's booklet "Parental Rights and Procedural Safeguards for Special Education" and will help in completing the forms and course planning chart.

To speed up the enrollment process at the school, starred registration items may be downloaded, completed, and brought to the registration meeting, or copies of any items may be picked up at the school, completed at home, and returned for the registration conference.
