Introduction
In small learning groups, students will investigate
the impact of their assigned group on the United States in the 1960s, its
culture, political establishment, the conduct of the Vietnam War, and describe
if their group had any impact upon U.S. Foreign Policy. The students
will report to the class on their findings in a multimedia format.

Groups:
1. The Vietnam War (battles, strategies, troop strength,
etc)
2. The New Left (SDS, Free Speech Movement)
3. The Counterculture (Hippies, dropouts)
4. The Antiwar Movement (Peace and end the war movements)
5. Draft resistance Movement
6. Mainstream America. (political parties, culture,
etc)(silent majority)

Initial Activities
1. The teacher will
select three to five students for each group (see above).
2. Each group will meet
and assign jobs for each member of the group.
3. Each student will
research his/her segment of their assignment on the
internet
or in the library.
4. The teacher will
issue lecture notes to each student, including a timeline of
the U.S. involvement in Vietnam.
5. The students will
sort through primary documents provided by the teacher
from the 1960s and select resources pertinent to their assignment.

Culminating
Activity
1. Each group will prepare
and deliver a fifteen minute report. The report will
be
delivered in a multimedia format.
2. The report will be
delivered to the full class with the objective of teaching the
the remaining students about the group's topic.
3. Each student will
fully participate in the group presentation.
4. TSW produce as a
group a 1960s timeline for display.

Assessment
A = TSW have 5-7 resources,
full participation in the group, the report delivery
will be outstanding, informative, use 3 media and 15 to 18 minutes long.
B = TSW have 5 resources,
almost full group participation, report delivery
will be very good, informative, use 2-3 media, and 13-15 minutes long.
C = TSW have at least
4 resources, partcipate in the group most of the time,
report delivery will be good, informative, use 2 media, and 11-15 minutes
long.
D = TSW have 2-3 resources,
participate in the group some of the time, the
report will be somewhat ineffective, use 1 media, and less than 10 min
utes long.
F = TSW not complete
